By Lord Byron
Lord Byron reimagines the legendary character of Don Juan, traditionally portrayed as a notorious womanizer, as a charming and somewhat naive young man who is more often the seduced than the seducer. The poem follows Juan's adventures across Europe and beyond, starting with his scandalous affair in Spain, his escape to the Mediterranean, and his encounters with various lovers, pirates, and nobles. While Don Juan is a satirical poem, it is also a product of the Romantic era and reflects many of its themes and characteristics. Lord Byron infuses the work with the Romantic emphasis on individualism, exploration of complex emotions, and a rebellious spirit against societal conventions.
